Just a quick follow-up to our earlier “costs of back pain” post in the form of a pair of videos: “Back Massage Therapy How To: Neck & Back Pain Relief Treatment, Cranio-Sacral Techniques” and “Back Massage Therapy, How to Body Massage With Oil Techniques” both featuring Athena Jezik. And this more than just personal promotion. Most healthcare providers have recognized that massage therapy is a legitimate aid for lower back pain as well as an effective adjunct to various lower back treatments.

Fifty-four percent of the healthcare providers said when polled that they will encourage their patients to pursue massage therapy in addition to traditional medical treatments. A study of massage and back pain conducted at the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami way back in 2001 found that: Cranio-Sacral Massage Therapy lessened lower back pain, relieved depression, lessened anxiety, and even improved sleep. The massage therapy group also showed improved range of motion and their serotonin and dopamine levels were higher. So for those looking for an alternative route to treat their chronic lower back pain, massage techniques such as cranio-sacral may be their best bet. Healthcare experts agree that the best way to manage chronic low back pain is probably to use several therapies at once, and therapeutic massage can be an important part of that care package.
